FTP Instructions / File Transfer Protocol Instructions

How do I publish my web site using FTP?

Once you have written your web page the next step is to publish or FTP your web page up to the world wide web.  (The words "publish"  and "FTP" are referring to the process of uploading your web page.)  The Publish feature in some HTML Editors (such as Microsoft's FrontPage) is not supported and you will need to use a 3rd party FTP Program (File Transfer Protocol program) to upload your website..

FTP programs are available on the world wide web for download from software download sites,
such as Download.com and TUCOWS.com

Below is an example using Ipswitch's WS FTP LE
(other FTP programs will be similar in nature)

Open WS-FTP_LE
The connection / setup screen will open

1) The destination address also known as Host Name or Address. Type ftp.cableone.net
2) Type your username and password
  3) Click OK

The connection screen will close, the actual FTP screen will appear
The left side is your computer (Local System) The right side is your Web Space (Remote System)

On the left navigate and find to your website.  To FTP all you have to do is to highlight your entire website and then click on the arrow pointing right located between the two windows.  Just remember to to upload everything needed for your pages (pictures, pages, and folders).  Click EXIT to close WS-FTP_LE.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The very first page needs to be named default.htm or index.htm. The CableONE.Net servers when resolving a personal website, the very first page it looks for is default.htm, if it cannot find that specific page it looks for index.htm. This is case sensitive as Default.htm is seen as a different file than default.htm
