A. Cable One Web Stop filters web page content, FTP, and newsgroups. The service can prevent your computer from receiving many objectionable web pages.
Q. What type of web content is blocked?
A. The Web Stop service was designed to meet the needs of schools. The filter blocks web sites commonly known to carry different types of content that schools may find offensive. Among these categories are web sites with images of pornography and violence.

A. No, Web Stop only filters web page content, FTP, and newsgroups.
Q. Is Web Stop foolproof?
A. Cable One's Web Stop is a superior method of filtering since objectionable content never enters your home. But the Web is dynamic. New sites appear everyday and no content filtering method is foolproof.

How does it work?
A.
Web Stop does not require the installation of additional software. After you have enabled Web Stop as described in the next question, Cable One's servers will automatically check web page requests against a database of known objectionable sites. If there is a match, the browser will display a page indicating the site has been blocked.

How do I order and set up Web Stop?
A.
Activating and setting up the service is a simple process you can do online.
- Login to http://myaccount.cableone.net with your primary (parent account) username
- Select "Web Stop"
- If activating for the first time, you will need to select "Subscribe"
- Select "Enable Filter"
- Reboot the cable modem and computers (router if applicable)
- Web Stop is now enabled
Q.
I have enabled Web Stop but it is not blocking sites?
A.
Your devices must be rebooted in proper order for Web Stop to work. This is because any devices behind the cable modem must obtain a new IP address to use the Web Stop service.
Steps if using a router:
- Unplug the power cable from your cable modem, count to five, then plug the power cable back into the modem
- Wait for the cable modem to come completly online
- Unplug the power cable from your router, count to five, then plug the power cable back into the router
- Give the router a minute to come online
- Reboot all computers connected to the router
- Test if Web Stop is working by visiting some of the blocked sites listed below. If it is not, please call our Solutions Center at 1-877-My-Cable (1-877-692-2253)
Steps for all other devices (computers):
- Unplug the power cable from your cable modem, count to five, then plug the power cable back into the modem
- Wait for the cable modem to come completly online
- Reboot all devices connected to the cable modem

What does Web Stop cost?

After activation of the Web Stop service, Cable One will bill you $3.00 per month.
Q.
I would like to block one computer in my home, but not block another. Will this work?
A.
No, Web Stop is enabled on the cable modem and therefore all computers connected to the modem will be filtered.
Q.
Can I turn Web Stop on and off?
A.
Yes. You control when and how you use the service. It is very similar to the Parental Lock feature available on your Cable One digital receiver. To deactivate Web Stop:
- Login to http://myaccount.cableone.net with your primary (parent account) username
- Select "Web Stop"
- Select "Disable Filter"
- Reboot the cable modem and computers (router if applicable)
- Web Stop is now disabled
You can turn Webstop on and off at anytime.
Q. Will this work for my business account?
A.
Yes. Keep in mind the filtering will apply to all devices behind the cable modem. In addition, since your IP address changes when you enable or disable the service if you have a persistent IP address you will need to contact us to re-set it.

What if a site I want to see is blocked?

Simply turn off the Web Stop filter from your parent account and try to access the page again.
(Note: This does not stop billing for the service.)
Q. How do I unsubscribe from the Web Stop service?
A. You will need to contact your local office in order to discontinue Web Stop from your billing.
