PLEASE STOP ALL THE POP UP ADS ON YOUR INTERNET !!!
2 reasons you may see Pop-Up advertisements while
surfing with CableONE.Net
1) Spyware / Adware
These "programs" are installed on your computer, usually without your knowledge. Some
pop-ups are caused by memory resident ad programs that get installed on your system.
Certain programs like IMesh, Kazaa and Gator may come bundled with adware elements.
"Adware is known by many names--spyware,
trackware, or even Big Brotherware. While producers of adware claim its purpose is
merely to collect information about Internet habits in order to deliver ads tailored
to a surfer's interests, privacy advocates are concerned about the potential misuse
of this data. Where does it come from? Most likely it was installed alongside that
free software widget that you downloaded just last week, without you even noticing."
- from CNET / Download.com
For example: before downloading Kazaa from CNET / Download.com - "Editor's note:
This download includes additional applications that are bundled within the software's
installer file, some of which may be provided by parties other than the developer
of this download. These applications may deliver advertisements, collect information,
overlay content or graphics on the Web site you are viewing, or modify your system
settings. As with all downloads, CNET recommends that you pay close attention to the
options presented to you during the installation process. Mandatory third-party applications
bundled with this download include Cydoor. Optional third-party applications include
SaveNow, DelFin, MediaLoads, b3d Projector, and New.net."

2) Web sites.
When you go to XYZ web site, two or three browser windows will appear when the page
loads. One is the the page you requested the others are advertisements, this is sometimes
called the "onload method". A new "trick" is using the "on unload method", when
you leave the XYZ web site and go to 123 web site one or two advertisements will pop
up, generated from the XYZ web site but placing the blame to 123 web site. Most
web sites now use the "pop under method", a small browser window will appear under
your desired web page.
