     W32 Blaster Worm

You might have heard about the "Blaster" computer virus (actually called a "worm") that is in the news. The good news is that Cable One's cable modem customers have been protected from this type of worm because of steps we took long ago.

Here's what we did (in somewhat technical terms): Cable One blocked ports 135 to 139 and port 445. Ports are the "channels" by which different types of Internet activity take place and the above are the most likely ports for mischievous Internet activity.

While it is possible for individual users to become infected from other networks, they cannot spread this worm across Cable One's Internet network. For more information about protecting a computer in the home, customers may wish to visit: http://www.cert.org/homeusers/.
