You might have heard about the "Blaster" computer
virus (actually called a "worm")
that is in the news. The good news is that Cable One's
cable modem customers have been protected from this type
of worm because of steps we took long ago.
Here's what we did (in somewhat
technical terms): Cable One blocked ports 135 to 139
and port 445. Ports are the "channels"
by which different types of Internet activity take place
and the above are the most likely ports for mischievous
Internet activity.
While it is possible for individual
users to become infected from other networks, they cannot
spread this worm across Cable One's Internet network.
