FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Cable One Spam Patrol™?
A. Cable One Spam Patrol™ is a feature provided as part of your CableOne.Net service to help reduce many types of unwanted e-mail.

Q. How do I access my Quarantined / Delivered / Removed e-mail?
A. Go to http://myspam.cableone.net and log in. Then click on the Cable One Spam Patrol™ icon. Towards the top of the Cable One Spam Patrol™ screen you will see the options to VIEW: JUNK, VIRUSES, DELIVERED, or TRASH email. Under each section you will be able to Remove or Deliver any and all e-mail you have received.

Q. How does it work?
A. Cable One routes e-mail addressed to Cable One users through filters managed by a leading spam reduction firm named Postini. Cable One Spam Patrol's ™ filters check and attempt to identify mail that appears to be "spam" or junk mail. Cable One Spam Patrol™ also checks for the presence of a virus in mail coming to you. Suspicious mail is quarantined or held on Cable One Spam Patrol's ™ servers and is available for your inspection from a special web page. From this web page, you can easily delete suspicious mail or choose to have it delivered to your regular e-mail inbox.

Q. Can I turn off e-mail blocking in Cable One Spam Patrol™?
A. Yes, go to http://myspam.cableone.net and log in. Then click on the Cable One Spam Patrol™ icon. At the top of the Cable One Spam Patrol™ screen click on Settings. Then click on Adjust filters. Under the first heading Junk Message Blocking, you can choose ON or OFF. It is recommended to leave Junk Email Blocking ON and only adjust the settings under the Spam Filters heading. For more information on the Cable One Spam Patrol™ Spam Filters click here.

Q. How does Cable One's Spam Patrol know what mail is junk mail?
A. The filters created by Cable One Spam Patrol™ do several checks on an e-mail. The filters check for certain phrases or structure within an e-mail, certain senders and other conditions. The filters create a numerical score for an e-mail. The higher the score, the more likely an e-mail will be quarantined.

Q. Cable One Spam Patrol™ quarantined an e-mail I want to always receive, how do I always allow this e-mail?
A. Go to http://myspam.cableone.net and log in. Then click on the Cable One Spam Patrol™ icon. The screen displayed is your quarantined e-mail. Check the box next to the desired mail then click DELIVER. The next screen click the box ADD APPROVED then click CONTINUE. The e-mail is then delivered to your inbox and the e-mail address is an approved sender.

Q. Why do I sometimes still receive spam?
A. Spam senders play a game of "cat and mouse" with spam filtering services. They alter wording and change phrases to lower their scoring. This means occasionally junk mail will get through the filters. Cable One Spam Patrol™ has a variety of settings, from lenient to aggressive. You should adjust these settings based on your experience to achieve maximum success.

Q. Can I report Spam that is getting through the Spam Patrol service?
A. Yes you can. If you feel you are recieving Spam messages and would like to report this, please forward a copy of the spam message to Spam@Postini.com. You will not recieve a response regarding the submitted email(s). However, research will be performed on the spam complaints and modifications performed on the Spam Patrol filters when applicable.

Q. I have a hosted Domain on CableOne.net. Will Cable One Spam Patrol™ filter my mail?
A. We are considering a similar solution for Hosted Domain users.
