CableONE-Certified Cable Modems FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions

Why are cable modems removed from certification?
Cable One continuously evaluates our network and modernizes our equipment to bring higher levels of reliability, stability and security to our customers. Some changes to our network enable us to implement more security features in an effort to protect the privacy of our customers. In addition to these network changes, cable modem manufacturers discontinue support and improvements on older cable modem models. When a manufacturer discontinues support, Cable One is unable to assure a cable modem will function properly on our network.

What does “End of Life” mean?
A cable modem that is specified as “End of Life” was once a recommended Cable One cable modem. Due to the discontinued production, manufacturer support changes, or other technical issues, these cable modems are no longer recommended. At present, these modems will continue to operate normally on our network and are permitted to complete the Cable One registration process. No dates have been specified to retire these modems from our network at this time. We suggest that at some point in the near future subscribers replace these cable modems with Cable One Certified cable modems @ http://help.cableone.net/cable/cm/.

How do I find the model of my modem?
There is not a standardized way to locate the specific model on your modem. This is especially true for the older models of cable modems. A few suggestions would be to look directly under the manufacturers name on the cable modem, look for a sticker on the back of the cable modem, or look on the box the cable modem came in. If none of these suggestions produce the model of the cable modem please call our Solutions Center at 1-877-692-2253 for assistance.

I have a Cable One Certified cable modem, but registration says it is not supported. Why?
Cable One certification is based upon the cable modem specifications provided by the manufacturer, as well as required Cable One standardizations. To be allowed through registration, Cable One validates a cable modem’s compatibility with our network by testing a multitude of settings on the cable modem. If we detect that a cable modem is incompatible for any reason, no matter the model, signup will not occur. In rare cases, particular certified cable modems may exhibit deviations from the specs we were given and may in fact be incompatible with our network. To be allowed through registration a Cable One Certified cable modem that meets all manufacturer specifications and Cable One standardizations must be purchased from a reputable electronics store, or can be leased through your local Cable One office. For security reasons, the specifications validated are not available for public knowledge.

I recently transferred and now my cable modem cannot complete registration. Why did it work at my previous location, but not now?
When you transferred a new Cable One account number was assigned to you. To assign your cable modem to your new account number you must go through the Cable One registration process. Unfortunately, your specific model of cable modem has been disallowed to register. To regain Internet access at your new location a Cable One Certified cable modem must be purchased from a reputable Electronics store, or leased through your local Cable One Office, and registered to your account.

How do I aquire a Cable ONE Certified cable modem?
