Web Hosting - Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add Web Hosting to my Cable ONE Account?
To add web hosting to your Cable ONE account, login to My Account. Move your mouse over the My Plan link at the top and select My Domain from the drop down list. Select the New Domain Sign up link to proceed through the registration process.

**Note: All domain hosting accounts require an active credit card during registration.
What are Domain Name System (DNS) records and why are they important to me?
The domain name system (DNS) stores and associates many types of information with domain names; most importantly, it translates domain names (computer hostnames) to IP addresses. Your domain name is currently pointing to our older DNS servers and will need to be updated to point to our newer DNS servers. This can be accomplished by changing the nameservers on your domain name to point to the new values.
What nameservers should I use?
The nameservers that you should be using for the upgrade are as follows:

Primary: adns.cs.siteprotect.com
Secondary: bdns.cs.siteprotect.com

Why can’t I see my Web site?
To better understand the source of the problem, please provide us with a traceroute so that we can determine whether this problem might be due to the connection between your computer and our servers.

Please refer to the following instructions:

Windows Users:
1. Start your DOS prompt.
2. Type "tracert www.yourdomain.com"
3. Press Return.
4. Wait until you are returned to the DOS prompt.
5. Repeat the process using yahoo.com as the domain name.
6. When "Trace Complete" displays, copy and paste the results, then email this to us.

Cutting and Pasting from Command Prompt:
1. Right-click the command prompt tab on your Start bar.
2. Select Edit | Mark.
3. Highlight the area you want to copy.
4. Right-click the command prompt tab on your Start bar.
5. Select Edit | Copy.

Macintosh Running OS 9.x or Below:
Go to the following URL: http://www.mac.org/internet/whatroute.
This site contains detailed information on how to run a traceroute using your Macintosh.

Macintosh running OS X:
If you are running OS X on your Mac, you can run a traceroute from the Terminal program by typing "traceroute www.yourdomain.com>" at the command prompt. Then, re-run the traceroute command with another Web site name (such as http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.google.com).

Cutting and Pasting from the Terminal Program:
Drag the mouse in the Terminal to highlight the text, then select either Edit | Copy or Apple-C on the keyboard. From there, open up TextEdit and use either Edit | Paste or Apple-V to paste the text. Alternatively, you can paste the results in your email program when sending the information to us. Finally, please send us your IP address, you can find this by going to http://www.whatsmyip.org/.
Why am I seeing an “Under Construction” page instead of my normal homepage?
This problem may be due to the default page not being set properly on the server. Servers often search for files like index.html, index.htm, default.html, default.htm, home.html, and home.htm within your public Web directory. Please contact our support department with the name of your default page to make the necessary modification to correct the problem.
What is SSL and how can I take advantage of it on my Web site?
SSL, or Secured Socket Layer, is a feature included within your plan that can encrypt the transmission of any data (Names, Addresses, Credit Card, or any other sensitive information) on your pages using a secure protocol. You can encrypt the contents of your pages by simply uploading the pages you wish to be secure within your main /www public folder. After doing so, simply reference the following URL on your links or pages:

https://ssl00.cs.onr.siteprotect.com/~yourdomain (no .com, .net, .biz, or. info suffix)
Why am I receiving emails with ***SPAM*** prepended to the email subject?
These are emails that have passed through our email filters, but did not score high enough to be filtered from our system. We allow you to be the deciding factor on the validity of the email. In addition, this places a consistent pattern on suspicious email that will allow you to create rules on your local email program, like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Mac Mail) to filter these messages.
