Data Plans: Frequently Asked Questions
What are Data Plans?
Data Plans offer an initial allocation of service "bytes" which is replenished monthly. Bytes are the units by which Internet usage is measured. The monthly period is the same as your billing cycle.
What is my Byte Allocation?
Depending on your level of service, the monthly Byte Allocation will be equal to one of the following:
  • Economy: 1 Gigabyte (1,024 Megabytes)
  • Preferred Upgrade: 50 Gigabytes (51,200 Megabytes)
  • Elite Upgrade: 100 Gigabytes (102,400 Megabytes)
Is there a timeframe when usage does NOT count against my Byte Allocation?
To assist with activities such as software updates and anti-virus updates usage will not be counted against your Byte Allocation during the hours of 12 midnight and 8 A.M.

**Economy Plan: Hours between 12 midnight and 12 noon will NOT be counted against the Byte Allocation.
How much is one gigabyte?
One gigabyte allows:
  • About 200 high quality pictures to be received or sent
  • Or Viewing of about 2,500 typical web pages
  • Or Viewing of about 8 hours of video clips on CNN
Is there a way for me to estimate what my monthly usage could be?
Yes. Cable One has posted a Bandwidth Usage Calculator that will allow you to see, based upon types of usage, what your possible month consumption could be. The tool is available at http://www.cableone.net/Pages/datacalculator.html.
How will I know the amount of allocation remaining during the month?
Cable One has developed a personalized web page called My Bandwidth, which will give you information on daily and monthly usage. This is available by logging into MyAccount
Will Cable One alert customers when their byte allocation is getting low?
Yes, Cable One provides an automated alert message that will appear on top of a web page. Alerts will be received when an account reaches 75%, 95%, 100%, and 200% of usage against the allocated bandwidth. The 75% and 95% are optional alerts that can be opted out of by visiting MyAccount.

**Note: The alert message will only be displayed within a web browser (Example: Internet Explorer). The alerts will NOT display through items such as video streaming or online games.
What happens if I exceed my allocation?
After exceeding the allocated bandwidth, Cable One will charge you for additional usage.

  • Preferred and Elite Upgrades
    • Cable One will charge you .50ยข for each additional 1 Gigabyte (1,024 Megabytes) of usage past your Byte Allocation for that billing period. The additional usage for the current billing cycle cannot be carried forward.
  • Economy
    • Cable One will charge you $10 for another allocation of 1 Gigabyte (1,024 Megabytes). This incremental allocation of one gigabyte is valid only for the current billing cycle and cannot be carried forward. Each incremental one Gigabyte allocation is $10. Should you use more than 5 incremental allocations, the maximum added charge is $50.00 which brings the maximum total charge to $70.00.
All Internet functionality will continue past your exceeded Byte Allocation.
Is my overnight bandwidth usage exempt?
Yes. During the overnight period between 12 midnight and 8 A.M. each day local time, Cable One does not count bandwidth used against your allocation. This means that activity such as software updates and anti-virus updates do not count. You may choose to schedule heavy usage such as downloads or sending pictures during this time.

**Economy Plan: Hours between 12 midnight and 12 noon will NOT be counted against the Byte Allocation.
Does the product work like other Cable One Internet services?
Yes. You can use this service just as you would our other levels of service. You need to be mindful of usage, though. For example, some web pages or programs, if left open, will reload automatically, play video, or consume bandwidth while the computer is unattended. Similar to a how a leaky faucet can use many gallons of water over a month, you should consider shutting down an unattended computer.
Do you have flat rate packages in addition to Data Plan packages?
Cable ONE offers a lower speed, higher cost flat-rate plan as well. We believe that by offering both low-price, higher speed Data Plan services in addition to a higher-priced flat-rate service, we will satisfy our customer's desire for pricing flexibility and higher speeds of service.
